The Town of New Milford is located in the southwest portion of Litchfield County with a population of approximately 30,000 residents. The town, which is 64.4 square miles, is served by a municipal police department comprised of over 50 men and women; sworn and civilian personnel. The New Milford Police Department is comprised of three separate units:

· Investigative Services Bureau
· Administrative Services
